Mental Health

Sometimes you have to quit. Lessons from Simone Biles.

Simone Biles is a 24 year old gymnast. She has 32 Olympic & world championship medals. She is one of the most decorated gymnast.

Recently, our girl was in the news last week. She withdrew from the individual all around gymnastics competition at the Tokyo Olympics to focus on her mental health. Simone recently admitted that her aunt passed away, so she wasn’t mentally prepared to continue in the competition.

But of course when some individual’s heard this and instead of showing some compassion towards her, they called her a “quitter.” Many people sitting behind their computer screen, probably overweight, with an Big Mac next to them, ridiculed her. Unfortunately, they didn’t want to respect her choice that she made for herself.

So after observing what was go in the news, I can honestly say, that I felt some kind of way. I am an mental health advocate, and I know the importance of taking care of yourself mentally. There are times in our lives that we just have to “quit.”

* We have to quit being a people pleaser.

* We have to quit allowing other people’s opinions to control us.

* We have to quit giving people our power by giving them consent to ruin our day.

If you want to hear more of my thoughts on this subject, well you’re in luck boo! I have an whole podcast episode on this topic. So click the link to hear my podcast, “Girl, It’s Complicated!”

Always work hard and have fun in what you do because I think that’s when you’re more successful. You have to choose to do it.

If I disappoint someone, it’s their loss for putting that expectation on me when they don’t know me. I can’t control what they want.
