Girl to Girl: Stop Feeling Guilty for Protecting Your Peace

Happy Tuesday ๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿฝ

Not everyone will understand your boundariesโ€”and thatโ€™s okay.

Hey sisโ€ฆ ๐ŸคŽ

Can we talk about something?

When did protecting your peace become something you had to apologize for?

Some of us feel guilty every time we say no.

We feel guilty for not answering the phone.

Guilty for canceling plans when weโ€™re emotionally drained.

Guilty for choosing ourselves.

Guilty because someone else is disappointed.

But hereโ€™s what Iโ€™ve learnedโ€ฆ

Every time you abandon yourself to make someone else comfortable, you teach yourself that everyone elseโ€™s needs matter more than your own.

Sisโ€ฆ

Thatโ€™s not love.

Thatโ€™s self-neglect dressed up as kindness.

๐ŸŒฟ You Are Not Responsible for Everyoneโ€™s Feelings

Some women have spent their entire lives managing other peopleโ€™s emotions.

Keeping the peace.

Avoiding conflict.

Fixing problems that werenโ€™t theirs to fix.

Making excuses for people who continue to hurt them.

Trying to make everyone happyโ€ฆ

โ€ฆwhile quietly falling apart themselves.

Read that again.

You cannot pour into everyone else while your own cup is bone dry.

Eventually, resentment shows up where peace should have been.

๐Ÿ’› Boundaries Arenโ€™t Mean

Letโ€™s clear something up.

A boundary is not punishment.

A boundary simply says:

โ€œI love you, but I also have to love me.โ€

Healthy people respect boundaries.

Unhealthy people often call them โ€œattitude.โ€

The people who benefited from your lack of boundaries will usually be the first ones upset when you finally create some.

Donโ€™t let that discourage you.

๐Ÿ‘‘ Stop Explaining Every Decision

Girlโ€ฆ

You donโ€™t need a ten-page explanation every time you choose yourself.

โ€œNoโ€ is a complete sentence.

โ€œI canโ€™t todayโ€ is enough.

โ€œThat doesnโ€™t work for meโ€ is enough.

Not everyone deserves access to your energy.

Not everyone deserves an explanation.

Protecting your peace doesnโ€™t require permission.

๐ŸŒธ Peace Is Expensive

It costs you things.

It may cost unhealthy friendships.

It may cost one-sided relationships.

It may cost people who only liked the version of you that never said no.

But the price of losing your peaceโ€ฆ

Is much higher.

Protect it.

๐Ÿ™๐Ÿฝ Even Jesus Stepped Away

One of my favorite reminders is that even Jesus withdrew to pray.

He healed people.

He loved people.

He served people.

But He also stepped away to rest and spend time with the Father.

If the Son of God didnโ€™t say yes to every demandโ€ฆ

Why do we think we have to?

Rest isnโ€™t selfish.

Boundaries arenโ€™t selfish.

Theyโ€™re wisdom.

๐Ÿ“ Girl, Ask Yourselfโ€ฆ

  • Where am I saying yes when I really mean no?
  • Who drains me more than they pour into me?
  • What boundary have I been afraid to set?
  • What would my life feel like if I stopped apologizing for protecting my peace?

๐Ÿ’ฌ Final Thoughts

Sisโ€ฆ

You are allowed to protect the life youโ€™ve worked so hard to build.

You are allowed to choose peace over people-pleasing.

You are allowed to disappoint others if it means you stop disappointing yourself.

The women youโ€™re becoming doesnโ€™t need everyoneโ€™s approval.

She needs your honesty.

So the next time guilt whispers,
โ€œYouโ€™re being selfishโ€ฆโ€

Answer back:

โ€œNo, Iโ€™m finally being healthy.โ€

And thatโ€™s a beautiful place to begin.

Love,

Your Girl Keysha ๐ŸคŽ
