A Soulful Sunday message about trusting God when growth feels uncomfortable.
Sis…
Can we talk about the strange part of healing nobody really prepares you for?
Sometimes your life doesn’t necessarily fall apart.
It just stops fitting.
The conversations you used to enjoy don’t hit the same.
The environments you once felt comfortable in suddenly feel heavy.
The things you used to tolerate start getting on your last good nerve. 😂
Even some of the dreams you once prayed for don’t excite you anymore.
And you start wondering:
“God, what is happening to me?”
Maybe nothing is wrong with you.
Maybe you’re growing.
And growth has a way of making old spaces uncomfortable.
🌿 Sometimes Growth Feels Like Discomfort Before It Feels Like Freedom
We love talking about transformation after it happens.
We celebrate the healed woman.
The confident woman.
The woman with boundaries.
The woman walking boldly in purpose.
But we don’t talk enough about the awkward middle.
That season when you know you can’t go backward…
but you’re not completely sure what forward looks like yet.
That space can feel lonely.
Confusing.
Uncomfortable.
But sis, uncomfortable does not always mean you’re in the wrong place.
Sometimes discomfort is evidence that you can no longer comfortably live beneath what God is developing within you.
🌿 What Once Worked May Not Work Anymore
There are things previous versions of you needed to survive.
Maybe you learned to people-please because you feared rejection.
Maybe you stayed quiet because speaking up felt unsafe.
Maybe you accepted crumbs because you hadn’t yet learned your worth.
Maybe you overworked because productivity made you feel valuable.
Maybe you stayed too long because leaving felt scarier than being unhappy.
Don’t shame that woman.
She was doing the best she could with what she knew.
But now you know more.
And when you know better, healing gives you an opportunity to choose differently.
🌿 God May Be Expanding Your Capacity for Better
Sometimes we ask God:
“Why can’t I tolerate this anymore?”
Maybe because you’re not supposed to.
Your standards changed.
Your discernment grew.
Your relationship with yourself changed.
Your relationship with God deepened.
And now things that once felt acceptable feel completely out of alignment.
That’s not necessarily you becoming difficult.
Sometimes that’s maturity saying:
“We don’t live like this anymore.”
Whew.
🌿 You Don’t Have to Shrink to Stay Connected
This part is hard.
Growth sometimes changes relationships.
When you stop overgiving, somebody may call you selfish.
When you start setting boundaries, somebody may say you’ve changed.
When you stop explaining yourself, somebody may think you’re distant.
When you stop accepting the bare minimum, somebody may say you’re asking for too much.
Let them have their opinion.
You do not have to return to an unhealthy version of yourself just because other people were more comfortable with her.
You are allowed to grow.
🌿 Stop Trying to Fit Into Places You’ve Outgrown
Sis…
A shoe that’s too small isn’t necessarily a bad shoe.
It simply doesn’t fit anymore.
And sometimes that’s life.
Everything you leave behind doesn’t have to be toxic.
Every relationship that changes doesn’t need a villain.
Every chapter that closes wasn’t necessarily a mistake.
Sometimes something served its purpose.
You learned.
You loved.
You grew.
And now it’s time to continue becoming.
You can appreciate what was without forcing it to remain what is.
📖 Scripture Meditation
“When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me.” — 1 Corinthians 13:11
Growth requires us to release old ways of thinking, responding, and living.
Not because our past selves were worthless.
But because we’re becoming.
🌸 Ask Yourself This Week
What am I forcing simply because it’s familiar?
Where am I shrinking to maintain connection?
What behavior have I outgrown but keep returning to?
What would my life look like if I stopped apologizing for becoming healthier?
And perhaps the biggest question:
Who is God inviting me to become now?
🤎 Closing Word
Sis…
Maybe you’re not losing yourself.
Maybe you’re finally meeting yourself.
Maybe you’re not becoming distant.
Maybe you’re becoming intentional.
Maybe you’re not asking for too much.
Maybe you’ve simply stopped accepting too little.
And maybe your life isn’t falling apart at all.
Maybe God is lovingly showing you what no longer fits the woman you’re becoming.
You don’t have to force yourself back into old spaces just because they’re familiar.
Thank God for what was.
Honor what you learned.
And give yourself permission to move forward.
Because sometimes growth doesn’t announce itself with a breakthrough.
Sometimes growth simply whispers:
“I can’t live like this anymore.”
Listen to her.
She’s becoming. 🤎✨
Happy Soulful Sunday.
