✨ Put It Down, Sis — You Were Never Meant to Carry It All

Happy Sunday 🙏🏽

A Soulful Sunday message about releasing control, emotional weight, and the pressure to hold everything together.

Sis…

Who told you that you had to hold everything together?

Because somewhere along the way, a lot of us learned that being strong meant carrying everything without complaining.

So we became the dependable one.

The fixer.

The problem-solver.

The one everybody calls when something goes wrong.

We learned how to smile while overwhelmed.

How to say, “I’m good,” while mentally running through seventeen different problems.

How to pray for everybody else while quietly wondering:

“God… who is going to take care of me?”

And after carrying so much for so long, sometimes we forget something important:

God never asked us to be everybody’s God.

Whew.

Some of this stuff has got to go.

🌿 Being Strong Doesn’t Mean Carrying Everything

Sis, strength is beautiful.

But strength without boundaries will wear you out.

There’s a difference between being supportive and becoming responsible for everybody.

You can love somebody without fixing their life.

You can care about somebody without carrying their consequences.

You can pray for somebody without making their problem your personal assignment.

And you can be a good woman without being available for every emergency somebody creates.

That doesn’t make you selfish.

That makes you human.

🌿 Some of Your Exhaustion Comes From Carrying What Isn’t Yours

Sometimes we ask God for more strength when what we actually need is permission to put something down.

That relationship you keep trying to fix.

That grown person whose choices you keep losing sleep over.

That guilt from something you cannot change.

That responsibility you accepted because nobody else stepped up.

That pressure to make sure everybody is okay.

Sis…

What if God isn’t asking you to carry it better?

What if He’s asking you to release it?

There are burdens that belong in God’s hands, not yours.

🌿 Control Can Disguise Itself as Responsibility

This one might step on a toe or two. Mine included. 😂

Sometimes what we call “being responsible” is actually fear.

We think:

“If I don’t handle it, everything will fall apart.”

“If I don’t check on them, something might happen.”

“If I don’t figure this out right now, I won’t be okay.”

But underneath all that pressure is often a belief that everything depends on us.

And sis…

It doesn’t.

You are responsible for being faithful.

You are not responsible for controlling every outcome.

There is freedom in learning the difference.

🌿 You Can Care Without Carrying

This might be one of the most important lessons we learn as women.

Compassion does not require self-abandonment.

You can say:

“I love you, but I cannot do this for you.”

“I’m praying for you, but this decision belongs to you.”

“I care about what happens, but I cannot sacrifice my mental health trying to control it.”

“I want the best for you, but I cannot want it more than you do.”

That is not cold.

That is wisdom.

Sometimes love looks like helping.

And sometimes love looks like stepping back and allowing people to take responsibility for their own lives.

🌿 God Can Handle What You Cannot

Sis…

There are things happening in your life right now that you simply cannot control.

You cannot control what people think.

You cannot control whether someone changes.

You cannot control every door.

You cannot control tomorrow.

But you know what?

God can handle what you cannot.

And surrender is saying:

“God, I’ve done what I can. Now I trust You with what I can’t.”

That’s faith too.

Not just praying harder.

Not just working harder.

Sometimes faith looks like unclenching your hands and saying:

“God, this belongs to You.”

📖 Scripture Meditation

“Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.” — 1 Peter 5:7

Notice the invitation.

God doesn’t say:

“Carry it until you figure it out.”

He says:

Cast it on Me.

Your fears.

Your children.

Your family.

Your finances.

Your future.

Your unanswered questions.

Your disappointments.

Your “God, I genuinely don’t know what to do with this.”

Give it to Him.

🌸 Soul Work for This Week

Ask yourself:

What am I carrying right now that actually belongs to someone else?

What outcome am I trying too hard to control?

Where have I confused loving someone with rescuing them?

What am I afraid will happen if I stop holding everything together?

And finally:

What would it look like to actually trust God with this?

Sit with that one.

🤎 Closing Word

Sis…

You don’t get a trophy for being the most exhausted woman in the room.

You don’t have to prove your strength by suffering silently.

You don’t have to rescue everybody.

And you certainly don’t have to carry the entire world before Monday morning. 😂

Some things need prayer.

Some things need boundaries.

Some things need action.

And some things simply need to be placed in God’s hands.

So before you walk into another week carrying everybody’s problems, everybody’s expectations, everybody’s emotions, and everything that might happen…

Put some of it down.

Actually…

Put a whole lot of it down.

You’ve carried enough.

Let God be God.

And give yourself permission to simply be His daughter.

Rested.

Loved.

Supported.

And free.

Happy Soulful Sunday, sis. 🤎✨
