A Soulful Sunday message about perspective, resilience, and refusing to let one difficult chapter define your whole story.
Sis…
Have you ever had one thing go wrong and suddenly it felt like EVERYTHING was wrong?
One disappointing conversation.
One unexpected bill.
One person getting on your last nerve. 😂
One door closing.
One plan falling apart.
One moment that didn’t go the way you expected.
And before you know it, your mind goes from:
“This situation is frustrating…”
to:
“My whole life is a mess.”
Baby, wait a minute. 😂
Your whole life is not a mess.
Something happened.
Something hurt.
Something disappointed you.
Something needs your attention.
But one difficult thing does not get permission to rewrite the entire story of your life.
🌿 YOUR MIND WILL MAGNIFY WHAT YOU STARE AT
Whatever we continuously focus on starts feeling bigger.
If you stare at what’s missing long enough, you’ll forget what’s present.
If you stare at who disappointed you long enough, you’ll overlook the people who love you.
If you stare at the door that closed long enough, you’ll miss the doors that are still open.
And if you spend all your energy thinking about what went wrong, you may completely overlook what is still going right.
This doesn’t mean ignoring problems.
It means keeping them in perspective.
Yes, this is hard.
AND God is still good.
Yes, I’m disappointed.
AND my life still has beauty.
Yes, I don’t know how this will work out.
AND I have survived uncertainty before.
Two things can be true at once.
🌿 A BAD MOMENT DOESN’T DESERVE THE WHOLE DAY
Sis…
We have to stop giving one bad moment an eight-hour shift. 😂
Something happens at 9:17 a.m. and we let it work overtime until bedtime.
We replay it.
Retell it.
Analyze it.
Create imaginary conversations about it.
Then carry it into tomorrow.
Some things deserve five minutes, not five days.
Feel what you need to feel.
Address what needs to be addressed.
Pray about it.
Learn from it.
Then ask yourself:
“Does this deserve any more of my energy?”
Sometimes the answer is no.
🌿 PEACE DOESN’T REQUIRE A PERFECT LIFE
I think sometimes we believe we’ll finally have peace when everything around us behaves.
When everybody acts right.
When the money is right.
When work isn’t stressful.
When relationships are easy.
When there are no problems.
Sis…
We might be waiting a long time. 😂
Peace isn’t the absence of problems.
Sometimes peace is the ability to say:
“This is difficult, but it will not consume me.”
“This hurt me, but it will not define me.”
“I don’t know what happens next, but I know Who walks with me.”
That’s a different kind of peace.
That’s peace with roots.
🌿 YOU HAVE SURVIVED DAYS YOU THOUGHT WOULD BREAK YOU
Sometimes you need to remember your own testimony.
Think about something that once had you crying, worrying, losing sleep, and wondering how you would ever get through it.
Now look at you.
You got through it.
Maybe not perfectly.
Maybe you came out with some scars.
Maybe it took longer than you wanted.
But you made it.
God carried you.
Grace covered you.
You learned.
You grew.
You kept going.
So when today’s problem starts talking loud, remind it:
“I have history with God.”
I’ve seen Him provide before.
I’ve seen Him comfort me before.
I’ve seen Him make a way before.
I’ve seen myself get back up before.
This isn’t my first hard day.
And God hasn’t failed me yet.
🌿 DON’T GIVE TEMPORARY THINGS PERMANENT POWER
Some of what you’re worrying about today won’t even matter six months from now.
Some people you’re trying desperately to understand won’t have access to the next version of you.
Some situations will resolve themselves.
Some doors closing will eventually make sense.
Some prayers will be answered differently than you expected.
And some things?
You’ll simply outgrow them.
So don’t build permanent conclusions around temporary circumstances.
“This is hard right now” is very different from:
“My life will always be hard.”
Be careful what you declare over a temporary season.
📖 SCRIPTURE MEDITATION
“We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair.”
— 2 Corinthians 4:8
I love this Scripture because it doesn’t pretend difficulty doesn’t exist.
Hard pressed?
Yes.
Crushed?
No.
Confused sometimes?
Absolutely.
Without hope?
Never.
That’s faith.
Not denying what hurts.
But refusing to let what hurts have the final word.
🌸 SOUL WORK FOR THIS WEEK
When something difficult happens this week, pause before letting your mind turn it into a catastrophe.
Ask yourself:
What actually happened?
What am I feeling about it?
Is my reaction about this moment, or is it touching an older wound?
What is still good in my life despite this situation?
What can I control?
What do I need to release?
And finally:
“God, help me see this situation without allowing it to become bigger than You.”
🤎 CLOSING WORD
Sis…
Maybe today wasn’t perfect.
Maybe this week stretched you.
Maybe somebody disappointed you.
Maybe something you hoped would work didn’t.
You are allowed to acknowledge that.
But before you say:
“Everything is going wrong…”
Look again.
There is still love somewhere.
There is still opportunity somewhere.
There is still laughter somewhere.
There is still hope somewhere.
There is still something worth thanking God for.
And most importantly…
God is still there.
One difficult chapter cannot erase an entire story of grace.
One rejection cannot erase your worth.
One mistake cannot erase your progress.
One bad day cannot erase a good life.
And one hard season cannot cancel God’s faithfulness.
So deal with what needs dealing with.
Cry if you need to cry.
Pray.
Rest.
Reset.
And then lift your head, sis.
Because there is still good here.
There is still life here.
There is still purpose here.
And God is still writing.
Happy Soulful Sunday. 🤎✨
