Girl to Girl: I’m Doing the Best I Can With What I Got

And right now, that is enough.

“I’m doing my best with what I got.”

Hey sis… 💛

Mariah Carey said it best:

“I’m doing my best with what I got.”

And baby… if that isn’t the word for some of us right now. 😂

Because maybe you’re not operating with a full tank.

Maybe the money is funny.

Maybe you’re tired.

Maybe your motivation has packed a bag and gone on vacation.

Maybe life has been throwing things at you faster than you can process them.

And yet…

You’re still here.

Still showing up.

Still trying.

Still praying.

Still figuring things out.

Still doing the best you can with what you’ve got.

And Girl to Girl?

That counts.

💛 Stop Judging Yourself by What You Don’t Have

Sometimes we’re incredibly hard on ourselves because we’re comparing what we’re accomplishing to what we think we should be accomplishing.

But we rarely consider what we’re working with.

You might be comparing yourself to someone with more money.

More support.

More connections.

More free time.

More resources.

More emotional capacity.

Meanwhile, you’re building your life with a prayer, three dollars, a YouTube tutorial, and determination. 😂

Give yourself some credit, sis.

You can’t compare somebody else’s resources to your resilience.

🌿 Your Best Will Look Different in Different Seasons

This is something I had to learn:

Your best is not a fixed number.

Some days your best looks like checking everything off your to-do list.

Other days your best looks like answering two emails and going back to bed.

Some seasons you’re building.

Some seasons you’re healing.

Some seasons you’re surviving.

Some seasons you’re thriving.

You don’t have to perform at 100% capacity when life has only left you with 40%.

If you gave what you genuinely had available today…

You did enough.

🧠 Give Yourself the Grace You Give Everybody Else

Isn’t it funny how compassionate we can be toward everybody except ourselves?

Your friend says she’s overwhelmed:

“Girl, give yourself some grace.”

Your sister is exhausted:

“You need to rest.”

Someone you love makes a mistake:

“You’re human. Don’t beat yourself up.”

But when it’s you?

“Girl, you need to get your life together!” 😩

Ma’am.

Can we extend some of that grace inward?

You deserve compassion too.

🌸 Making the Best of What You Have Is a Skill

We talk so much about having more that we sometimes overlook the power of knowing how to work with what we already have.

You may not have the dream house yet.

Make the space you have feel like home.

You may not have the income you want yet.

Learn how to steward what you have while working toward more.

You may not have a huge support system.

Pour into the healthy relationships you do have.

You may not have your entire future figured out.

Take the next step you can see.

You don’t need everything to begin.

Sometimes you simply need to ask:

“What can I do with what I have today?”

Start there.

🙏🏽 God Has Always Been Good at Working With “Not Enough”

And this is where my faith kicks in.

Because throughout Scripture, God has a habit of asking people what they already have.

A little oil.

A little flour.

A few loaves and fish.

A staff in someone’s hand.

Things that looked insignificant became enough when placed in God’s hands.

That encourages me because sometimes we’re praying:

“God, I need more.”

And God may be showing us:

“Let Me work with what you already have.”

Your little doesn’t intimidate God.

Your limited resources don’t cancel your purpose.

Your current circumstances don’t determine the ending of your story.

Bring God what you have.

Your gifts.

Your ideas.

Your faith.

Your willingness.

Your imperfect effort.

And trust Him with the multiplication.

💅🏽 And Please Stop Letting Social Media Rush You

Because according to the internet, everybody is:

Rich.

Married.

Healing.

Traveling.

Buying houses.

Starting businesses.

Drinking green juice at 5:00 a.m.

And somehow making six figures from their phone while sitting on a beach. 😂

Meanwhile, you’re looking at your life thinking:

“Am I behind?”

No, sis.

You’re living an actual human life.

Social media can make ordinary progress feel like failure.

Don’t fall for it.

You don’t know what resources, help, debt, sacrifice, connections, or circumstances exist behind somebody else’s highlight reel.

Stay focused on your lane.

🤎 You Can Want More Without Hating Where You Are

This is important.

Being grateful doesn’t mean you can’t desire better.

You can appreciate your current life and still want it to grow.

You can say:

I’m thankful for my job and I’m ready for a better opportunity.

I’m grateful for where I live and I’m saving for something different.

I’m proud of who I’ve become and I’m still working on myself.

I’m grateful for what I have and I’m believing God for more.

Gratitude and ambition can exist in the same woman.

🌱 Do What You Can. Release What You Can’t.

Maybe you can’t solve everything today.

Okay.

What can you do?

Make the phone call.

Send the application.

Save the $20.

Write the first page.

Take the walk.

Drink the water.

Say the prayer.

Make the appointment.

Research the opportunity.

Set the boundary.

Rest.

Sometimes the next step isn’t glamorous.

It’s just necessary.

And enough small steps eventually create a completely different life.

📝 Girl, Ask Yourself…

1. Am I being too hard on myself for things outside of my control?

2. What am I doing well that I haven’t given myself credit for?

3. What resources, gifts, relationships, or opportunities do I already have that I could use differently?

4. What is one realistic thing I can do this week to move forward?

5. Where do I need to replace self-criticism with grace?

💬 Final Girl to Girl

Sis…

Maybe you don’t have everything you want yet.

Maybe you’re still figuring some things out.

Maybe this season doesn’t look anything like the vision board.

That’s okay.

Work with what you’ve got.

Use the resources you have.

Take the step you can take.

Pray with the faith you have.

Rest when you need to.

Ask for help when you need it.

And stop beating yourself up because you haven’t arrived yet.

There is a difference between making excuses and acknowledging your current capacity.

You can hold yourself accountable without tearing yourself apart.

You can want better without calling your present self a failure.

You can keep growing while still being proud of the woman you are today.

So when that little voice starts telling you that you’re not doing enough, borrow Mariah’s energy:

“I’m doing my best with what I got.”

And sis?

For today…

that is enough. 💛

Love,

Your Girl Keysha
