A Soulful Sunday message for the woman learning that faith doesn’t require pretending.
Sis…
Can we normalize something?
You can love God deeply and still have a hard day.
You can pray every morning and still feel overwhelmed by afternoon.
You can know Scripture and still have moments when your thoughts are all over the place.
You can trust God and still wonder how something is going to work out.
You can be grateful for your life and still admit that something hurts.
And you can have strong faith without being strong every single day.
Somewhere along the way, many of us learned to associate faith with always appearing okay.
So when somebody asks how we’re doing, we automatically say:
“I’m blessed.”
“I’m good.”
“God’s got me.”
And all of those things may be true.
But sometimes another truth is:
“Baby, I’m tired.” 😂
And guess what?
God can handle that truth too.
🌿 FAITH DOESN’T REQUIRE PERFORMANCE
Sometimes we perform strength even with God.
We pray the polished prayer.
We say what we think we’re supposed to say.
We try to immediately turn every painful emotion into something positive.
But have you read Psalms?
David was out here telling God EVERYTHING. 😂
Fear.
Anger.
Confusion.
Grief.
Loneliness.
Frustration.
And yet David was still described as a man after God’s own heart.
Why?
Because relationship with God isn’t about pretending.
It’s about honesty.
God doesn’t need the church version of you.
He wants YOU.
The woman who believes…
and the woman who has questions.
The woman who worships…
and the woman who sometimes cries in the shower.
Bring all of her to God.
🌿 A HARD DAY DOESN’T MEAN YOU HAVE A BAD LIFE
This is something I think we all need to remember.
Sometimes it’s simply a bad day.
Not a bad life.
Not a failed season.
Not evidence that everything is falling apart.
A day.
You can have an amazing life and still have difficult moments.
You can be blessed and frustrated.
Grateful and disappointed.
Hopeful and tired.
Healing and triggered.
Faithful and uncertain.
Two things can be true at the same time.
Emotional maturity teaches us that we don’t have to turn every uncomfortable feeling into a catastrophe.
Sometimes you need to say:
“Today was hard. Tomorrow is another day.”
And leave it there.
🌿 STOP JUDGING YOURSELF FOR BEING HUMAN
Sis…
You give everybody else grace.
Where is yours?
You understand when somebody else is overwhelmed.
You tell your friends to rest.
You remind everybody else that healing isn’t linear.
Then YOU have one rough day and suddenly you’re giving yourself a full performance review. 😂
“Why am I feeling like this?”
“I thought I was healed.”
“I should be further along.”
No ma’am.
Give yourself the same compassion you give everybody else.
You are allowed to have emotions without turning them into evidence that you’ve failed.
Feel.
Process.
Pray.
Rest.
Then keep going.
🌿 GOD IS NOT DISAPPOINTED BY YOUR EXHAUSTION
Jesus Himself rested.
He withdrew from crowds.
He slept.
He experienced grief.
He wept.
So why do we sometimes believe spirituality means functioning like we don’t have human limitations?
Rest is not spiritual failure.
Needing support is not weakness.
Taking a mental break doesn’t mean you’re lazy.
Sometimes the most spiritual thing you can do is admit:
“I need to sit down somewhere.”
Amen AND take the nap. 😂
🌿 YOU DON’T HAVE TO FIX EVERYTHING TONIGHT
One thing anxiety loves to do is convince us that everything needs an answer immediately.
It doesn’t.
That decision can wait until tomorrow.
That conversation may not need to happen tonight.
That problem doesn’t have to be solved before you go to sleep.
You don’t need the entire plan.
Sometimes tonight’s assignment is simply:
Eat something.
Drink some water.
Pray.
Turn the phone over.
Go to bed.
And trust God enough to believe that the world can keep turning while you rest.
📖 SCRIPTURE MEDITATION
“My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.” — 2 Corinthians 12:9
Notice what God doesn’t say.
“Get stronger and come back.”
He says:
“My grace is sufficient.”
God’s grace meets you in your weakness.
You don’t have to become strong enough to deserve His presence.
He meets you exactly where you are.
🌸 SOUL WORK FOR THIS WEEK
Ask yourself:
Where have I been pretending to be okay instead of admitting I need rest?
What expectations am I placing on myself that God never placed on me?
What emotion have I been judging myself for feeling?
Who is a safe person I can be honest with when life feels heavy?
And finally:
What would giving myself grace actually look like this week?
🤎 CLOSING WORD
Sis…
You don’t have to wake up every morning feeling powerful.
You don’t have to turn every struggle into an inspirational testimony by lunchtime.
Some days you’re going to conquer the world.
Other days you’re going to make it through the day, take your bra off, put on your comfortable clothes, and thank Jesus you survived. 😂
Both days count.
God isn’t only present when you’re productive.
He’s present when you’re tired.
He’s present when you’re uncertain.
He’s present when you’re crying.
He’s present when your faith feels powerful.
And He’s present when all you can pray is:
“God, help me.”
That prayer counts too.
So if this week was hard…
Don’t beat yourself up.
Don’t question everything.
Don’t convince yourself you’ve lost all your progress.
Rest.
Reset.
Receive God’s grace.
Tomorrow is a new day.
And the beautiful thing about God is that His mercy will already be waiting for you when you get there.
You can love God and still have a hard day, sis.
One difficult day cannot cancel a faithful God.
Happy Soulful Sunday. 🤎✨
